From June 8 to 17, 2026, a 13-member faculty and student delegation from the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services, California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), embarked on a 10-day in-depth study and exchange tour across China. The delegation consisted of undergraduate nursing students, Master of Nursing students and Master of Public Health students. This visit built a professional platform for two-way on medical education and cutting-edge scientific research between China and the United States.
Yantai: Pay Tribute to a Pioneer and Immerse in Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture
On June 8, the delegation arrived in Yantai, Shandong Province as their first stop and visited Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The faculty and students toured the school history museum, precision medicine research laboratories and training rooms of the Medical Imaging School. At the Rongxiang Building of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the delegation held a solemn flower-laying ceremony in front of the bronze statue of Professor Rongxiang Xu, to pay tribute to this trailblazer in regenerative medicine and recall his outstanding contributions to burn treatment and wound repair worldwide.
The trip to the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine the next day became a highlight of the tour. American teachers and students handcrafted traditional Chinese medicine cultural creations including herbal sachets, herbal flower teas and foot bath powders, experiencing the life wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine through hands-on creation. During the experience of distinctive TCM therapies, they felt the unique charm of traditional medicine through tuina massage and the four diagnostic methods of observation, listening, inquiry and palpation. In the afternoon of the same day, the delegation visited the Life Science Museum, and experienced lion dancing, tai chi sword, tai chi and Chinese table tennis at the university student activity center.
Zibo & Binzhou: Trace Cultural Origins and Go Deep Into Frontline Clinical Settings
On June 10, the delegation traveled to Zibo and visited the China Ceramic and Glass Museum.
On June 11, the delegation arrived at the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Binzhou Hospital). Hospital leaders and representatives from the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services jointly unveiled a practical teaching base, marking a new phase of bilateral cooperation in clinical teaching and scientific research. American faculty and students toured featured departments including the International Medical Department, rehabilitation hall and obstetric LDR suites, and focused on visiting the wound repair department to observe the clinical application of regenerative medical technologies on site. The School of Nursing also arranged campus tours, laying a solid foundation for multi-level and multi-channel cooperation in the future.
